Gilbert's chowder is chock full of clams, potatoes and just the right amount of celery and bacon. The broth is the perfect consistency, neither too soupy or too goopy. You can get your seafood either fried or broiled. Haddock, shrimp, scallops and whole bellied clams are ultra fresh and made fresh to order. Check the fresh board for daily specials. The double lobster dinner is a common sellout. Gilbert's is a Portland institution.
Pros: Chowder, haddock, lobster.
