I was on vacation with my family, and we were wandering around Portland. I needed a haircut, and this place had good reviews, so I thought I'd check it out. I went in and asked if they took walk-ins and was informed that, although they did, they did not, in fact, have any openings that day (quite understandable, given the fact that it was the busy, holiday season). We were just leaving, when Justin, who walked out of the office next door, overheard our conversation, and asked if I wanted my haircut. He said he had some free time, and could do it. Of course I had no idea who he was, but when he explained that he worked at Ethan Hunter, and was not just some random guy, I quickly accepted the offer.

He gave me, without a doubt, the best haircut I have ever had. I was looking for a drastic change, and he took the time to help me figure out what would look good on me. He's a real perfectionist, and takes the time to get it just right.

The atmosphere is also really nice. Everything is comfortable and relaxed.

My only regret is that I don't live anywhere near Portland, so I won't be able to go back regularly. For those of you who do have that luxury, I highly recommend this place.

Great place for men's hair cuts. Been going to Johanna for about 4 months now and she's great! I'm quite picky about my cuts and I've never had a bad cut here.

I love the skill, the artistry, the ambience and the customer appreciation all the hair stylists bring to their work. I've been going to Ethan Hunter for 10 plus years - driving from Brunswick - because it's terrific.

I have been going to Ethan Hunter Salon for several years. I have always had a great cut and amazing highlights. Jessica is an artist and a professional in every sense of the word. I recently was married on Southport Island and she and her sister traveled there on a Thursday to create our wedding hair. She did the most amazing up do I have ever seen. She had highlighted my hair a week earlier to compliment what she had in mind and it looked fantastic. The Photographer Kim Chapman kept saying it was the best wedding up do she had ever seen. She did my make up as well and she truly is an artist and a perfectionist. I will be forwarding photos from the photographer soon to their facebook site and you can see for yourself what a talented and professional stylist she is.

My husband started having his hair cut with Justin 18 months ago and he has never looked better. His hair is thinning and Justin always makes it look like he has more hair. Probably the best men's stylist in the state. As we do not live in Portland we drive 2 to 3 hours every time and it is worth it!!!

On top of all of this they are just the nicest people. Down to earth, honest, and proud of their work.

I highly recommend Ethan Hunter Salon. I have been to many over the years and no other salon comes close.

the best hair cut i have ever had. ETHAN HUNTER SALON IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET A HAIR CUT! I have been going here for years. Justin gives the best bald fade i have ever had! Everyone that works there are very personable. They are all very talented! I recommend everyone gets there hair cut here.

Best Salon in Portland!. Ethan Hunter Salon is great.

I've been going there for years for cut and highlights. My husband, mother, sister and best friend are all regulars now - doesn't that say it all? :) Jessica, Justin and DJ are all very personable, professional and talented stylists. Obviously I recommend this place to everyone.

These are BOGUS REVIEWS. What a shame when a business has to place their own bogus reviews in order to drum up business. Have a look at the reviews, incredibly similar ( Note: the wonderful review entitled "Wonderful" supposedly written by JennyT45, and then notice the review a few spots down entitled Best Hair Salon in Portland "written" by JWA45. I guess the owners favorite number is 45!!! .......please do not tell me this is coincidence.) Also, how is it that every "customer" knows they are a husband and wife team and know's BOTH of their names. COME ON FOLKS!!!!! And then notice whenever someone writes something negative about them almost instantly more bogus reviews flood in in order to move the negative review down. No other salon in all of Maine has this many reviews. This column is supposed to be for honest reviews, not a bunch of made up nonsense. See for yourself, as soon as this review is posted a flood of "wonderful" reviews will move it down. Ethan Hunter, you guys should be ashamed of yourself's for acting in such an unethical way.

Wonderful. This place is phenomenal. Justin and his wife are some of the kindest people I've ever met...not to mention their dogs are adorable! More importantly, the cut and color I received was wonderful- exactly what I was looking for, and I have gotten tons of compliments on it since. I always feel 110% comfortable and at home in the salon. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

A special place. After my regular stylist moved away I went several years trying many to find a quality replacement. it wasn't until I found Ethan Hunter Salon did I stop my wondering ways.

Now my wife and three boys also go there and we all love the haircuts, styles, colors and suggestions. We have received cuts from DJ, Justin and Jessica and they are all wonderful and make us feel special every time we enter their salon.

I cannot think of a business in any field who goes out of their way to please their customer like these fine people. Highly recommended!

Best Hair Salon in Portland. The place is very comfortable, and the owner/salon specialists are extremely friendly and attentive. I have been going to the salon since it opened and have gotten my haircut by both Jessica and Justin who both do a fantastic job. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
