Great homecooked burger. We stopped in for a quick bite at lunchtime on the way to the Boston airport after a week of a daily diet of lobster, clams and crab. Not to disrespect the seafood, but we were craving meat. On the deck upstairs, I had the cheeseburger which was a 1/4 pound of hand formed juicy beef stacked with layers of lettuce, tomatoes, chopped onions and mustard on a homebaked roll. Yum. The husband had the italian sausage sandwich, with ample sausage on a long hoagie roll. Both served with frozen fries or onion rings. Students, fishermen, retired folks and business types ate mostly breakfast around us at noon. The blueberry pancakes, at $2.75 EACH are huge. They looked fabulous, but no one could finish the three stack that came with breakfast combos.

My husband complained of surly service. The all women staff did seem mildly annoyed at our every comment. Q: "What would you like on your burger?" A.: "Whatever it comes with." Q (?): Sigh. A.: Well, what does it come with? Q: lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, relish? A: Yes. Q: Sigh.

But it satisfied our carnivorous craving. Our food was well prepared.

Authentic diner great food. We have just returned from a trip to Maine. Becky's diner should not be missed. The ambience is truly down home American. We sat at the bar stools and watched the food as it came through the pass through window of the kitchen. The blueberry pancakes were everything you could want, with real maple syrup and a cup of Jo. The locals frequent this place too so you know the value is good and the food hearty. Save yourself a few bucks and the angst waiting in line at some of the other high end places in Portland. You can even take home a souvenir coffee mug to remember your experience. While you are there dont forget to visit the Portland Headlight and the Art museum- they are absolute musts.

Portland's most distinct diner caters to fishermen and budget-minded diners with its convenient hours and low prices.. In Short
Those in search of a true local experience cannot do much better than to head to Becky's at 5am and grab a stool to watch the fishermen come and go. The standard diner environs match the lengthy menu's straightforward offerings. Huge omelettes and combo breakfast specials offer a sustaining start to the day.
