The classic independent bookstore. Even though I am living in Boston, I always order my books from Longfellows, and I make a visit to the store each time I visit Portland and walk away with books to keep me busy til I need my next fix. The store has a great selection, but it is small enough to be comfortable. It has neither the sense of an anonymous warehouse baragain basement nor the feel of those one room bookstores covered in dust.

The store and the staff are kid friendly, dog friendly, knowledgeable and easy on the eyes. Just right.

Best Bookstore in Portland. I absolutely love Longfellow Books, and have been a patron since they first opened in Monument Square. They have a pretty decent selection, including a nice children's book section, and a very friendly comfortable atmosphere. With all the great staff reccomendations and a lot of cool local stuff, you're sure to find something you'll enjoy.
