RUDE Owner. I have been to Ogunquit many times over the years and I want to warn readers of this site to stay clear of Cafe Prego. I ate at this restuarant twice last week, but my second experience was shocking. The owner is out of control and uses the police and his position in the town to threaten and bully. After over 90 minutes of waiting for our food he said that it was our fault that we had been rude to the waiter. After we found out that the order was never entered into the kitchen we told the waiter there was no problem and mistakes happen, after 30 more minutes I went to the owner and questioned what is now the problem. He asked us to leave ---but not without paying for the check--all of it including the food that we still had not received. At that time the police arrived and advised that we needed to pay the charges or go to jail.

I am sure the police in Ogunquit are not part of this, but this man is in need of a long rest. He is irrational and beyond that unethical. Save your money and get your pizza at Pizza Hut, you will at least not have to worry about ending up in jail.

Best place in Ogunquit in a very long time!!. After driving two hours from Boston, we arrived for dinner on Memorial day weekend with 4 children and found this place to be outstanding both in food quality and service. We were two couples dining out with 4 children and despite how busy the Caffe was on this particular Saturday, we asked the owner if it was possible if our children could have pasta even though it was not on the menu. We were amazed at how quickly our request was accomodated and learned later on that the owner went next door to his other restaurant to have his Chef cook the pasta for us. The pizza we had at the Caffe was the best and the gelato and coffee was outstanding. This place is children friendly and the atomosphere is fun with a great patio setting.

Never Again!. I am sad about writing this review, because up until today I was a big fan of Cafe Prego. However, my opinion has strongly changed and I will never again visit this restaurant.

The owner (who has known my family for 15+ years) was incredibly rude to me, ignoring my order to assist a friend instead, and then proceeded to yell at me and even ask me to leave. Since I had already promised my four-year old ice cream, we stayed anyway. The owner did eventually come to the table to apologize, but it was too little too late as I was stunned by his behavior and quite embarrassed for him. Three different times he stated "you should work behind the counter and see how it is". This leads me to believe that he is unable to handle the crowd and maybe should not be running a restaurant. I am also surprised that there is another review here on CitySearch where he has acted in the same manner. I was hoping that this was an isolated incident, but obviously it is not.

There are definitely more friendly, less expensive options in Ogunquit for coffee and ice cream and I strongly suggest you skip Cafe Prego and go elsewhere!

Excellent outdoor setting. We wanted to have lunch at Five-O, the restaurant next door. It does not open till 5:00pm. We learned that the owner also owns the adjacent "Cafe Prego". The outdoor seating is very nice. It overlooks Shore Rd which was buzzing with tourists. Our party (7)ordered soups, salads, and pizza (in Maine!). The soup (three-bean) was average. The vegetables in the salads were "old". The pizzas, the cafe signature entre, were above average, crispy thin dough, interesting ingredients(figs). The first restaurant I try outside Italy that uses pecorino cheese on pizza. Our big disappointment was the utensils' cleanlyness. the forks had dried food remains on them and the knives had oily fingerprints. We asked for replacements five times and every time the waitress brought back similar dirty silverware. When we complained to the owner (who seemed very pleasent at the beginning) we were surprisingly disappointed by his rection. He became very defensive and rude. He told us that he was insulted "What you said is insulting, we take pride in what we do here". We were stunned. I wanted to try some the great looking canollies but changed my mind. We would never go back.
