Know Before You Go:
Don't even think of driving down Main Street through town. Take exit 19 and park in one of the first lots. Everything's within walking distance. You can drive from Boston to Freeport in about two and a half hours.
On the Menu:
For a midday meal, try the terrific fried clams at Harraseeket Lunch in South Freeport. You won't be able to avoid the crowds, but at least you'll enjoy the drive through a gorgeous village.
